June 27, 2008:
I sent this issue of my blog
out via email to a lot of people, but made a lot of changes ... added
information ... reformatted things so your MAC will like it better ...
reformatted things so your PC will like it better. I'm open to (want)
suggestions for making it "more better" ... you can talk back by clicking on the
link at the bottom of the page.
I'm sure the first thing you will
notice is that
our address has changed !! We
have moved to a new location ... when you go west on Tallevast road (one block
west of 15th Street ... Old 301) you will see the
sign below. Turn in and look left and you'll see our new place. We
are partnering with the Digital Technology Centre and you will see a sign with
their name on it. We will be adding an additional sign with our name on it
in about a week.

We're looking forward to having a
few days off so we can enjoy doing the things we love to do ... some of
which involves photography, and some of which does not. In our Studio on
Main Street in Lakewood Ranch we were required to be there seven days
a week (because it was a shopping district, and it was written in our
lease). Our current situation is much more informal, and we will have the
opportunity to get away from the studio for a lot more diverse life ...
including my creative photography life. We'll put some of the pictures up
here for you to see. For instance:
I'm going to Peru for 15 days!
On July 27 I will be leaving for
a Mission Trip to Peru. I will be going with a group of dentists and
doctors who will provide dental and medical care (and love) to the people who
live in villages along the banks of the Amazon River and its tributaries.
We will go by boat to a different village each night (while we sleep) and in the
morning we will set up a dental and medical clinic in a new village. We
will also have opportunities to visit the Peruvian Rain Forest. I will put
pictures from the trip here in my blog after I return on August 11.
Also ... we're going to
have an open house pretty soon, and you'll get an invitation !

How about a special promotion to celebrate our new
Studio?? |

Right now
... for the next couple of months ... the beach is
really beautiful. Look at how pretty the Sea Oats
are in the Family Portrait above. Did you know
that the Sea Oats lose a lot of their charm in the fall
(starting sometime in September) and don't get it back
until June the next year??
| About Sea Oats
|
|
We have lots of Sea
Oats along the Gulf Coast of Florida. They
grow from underground stems (called
rhizomes) in elongate colonies where the
winds shift and swirl the sand. The leaves
are up to 2 ft long and 1 in wide, are
green, and come out at the bottom near the
sand. In
summertime
the 6 ft above-ground stems called culms
terminate in gracefully drooping 18 in
clusters called panicles of flat, yellowish,
1.5 in long seedheads called spikelets
... and that is what makes them more
beautiful in the summer. In the winter
all that is left are the stems ... no pretty
panicles. Also, Sea Oats are protected
by law, and you may not pick or take any
part of the Sea Oats ... even the seeds ...
without breaking the law and subjecting
yourself to a large fine. |
So ...
for the next few months ... until September 30 ...
we are offering a special on portraits at the beach.
Beach
Portrait Special
We will meet
you at the beach and spend the hour before sunset taking
pictures of you, your family, or whatever group you
bring. Our price for this session is normally $150
... but for this special, we will do it for half price,
$75. We will also offer you 10% off the price of
all the prints you order from your session.
Call to
schedule an appointment ... there are a limited number
of appointments available ... and
you must
tell us that you saw this offer on my Studio Blog.
Or if you have questions, call or email us. You
can see lots of examples of family portraits on our
website
www.DickPetersonPhotography.com ... then click on
the "family portraits" button.
If you have
been thinking about a Beach Portrait and have been
putting it off ... now is the time to do it ... the
beach is beautiful, and the price is right. |

So ... what have we been doing,
other than moving our things to the new location??
Well, last weekend (June 21 and June
22) we had the
pleasure of photographing 3 weddings (two on Saturday, and one on Sunday).
|
Jennifer and Josh
|

On Saturday we started by going to
St John's Methodist Church on Proctor Road in Sarasota and photographing the
wedding of
Jennifer Boone and Josh Melancon.
As you can see, the Bride was beautiful (and so was the ceremony). The
picture on the left of Jennifer was taken during the ceremony at the altar.
The one on the right was during the Bride and Groom's first dance. We
enjoyed being a part of Jennifer and Josh's special day ... thanks to Jennifer and
Josh and their
families for including us ! |
| Jessica and Joe |
|

Next, we went to Marina Jack for the wedding of
Jessica Disney and Joe Bandhauer.
It was raining like mad during the time they were supposed to have their
ceremony outside near the dolphin fountain ... so the ceremony was moved inside
the restaurant. The picture on the right is Jessica and Joe inside Marina
Jack during the ceremony. Then on Monday we came back and made some pictures of
the family and the bridal party out on Island Park. Jessica wanted a
picture inside the circle sculpture ... so we made the one on the left.
That's about all we did on Saturday. |
| Chennill and Nik
|
|

Then on Sunday we went to the
Ringling Museum to photograph the wedding of
Chennill Russell and Nik Proskourine.
That's Nik showing us the rings, and on the right is Chennill escorted by her
brother on the walk to the altar in the courtyard of the museum. The Bride
was beautiful! After the ceremony we went to the Ritz Carlton for the
reception, and as you would expect, everything was perfect. After being
out in the sun at 12:30 for the ceremony, everybody really appreciated the air
conditioning in the Ritz. |
